What's the difference between Riven, Honed and Brushed slate?

Riven is the natural cleft finish — textured, traditional, non-slip. Honed is machined flat and smooth on top, calibrated to an even thickness underneath. Brushed sits between the two: a softened, low-sheen texture with the ridges smoothed down.

Should I choose 20mm or 30mm?

20mm suits most standard wood-burning stove installations. 30mm is typically specified for larger or more exposed hearths, or where a heavier, more substantial look is wanted.

Can I get a slate hearth cut to my exact size?

Is slate heat resistant and safe for a wood-burning stove?

Yes, slate is naturally heat-resistant and a standard material for stove and fireplace hearths in the UK.

How do I clean and maintain a slate hearth?

Regular sweeping plus an occasional damp wipe is normally enough. Avoid abrasive cleaners on Honed finishes, as they can dull the surface.
