Honed slate FAQ
What is a Honed finish?
Honed slate is machined flat and smooth on top, and calibrated to an even thickness underneath — a clean, contemporary look with none of Riven's natural texture.
Is Honed slate more slippery than Riven?
It has a smoother surface, so it offers less grip than Riven. It's rarely an issue for a hearth, but worth knowing if the hearth extends into a busy walkway.
How do I keep a Honed surface looking its best?
Avoid abrasive cleaners and scouring pads — they can dull the smooth finish over time. A soft cloth and mild cleaner is all it needs.
Does Honed slate come in 20mm and 30mm?
Yes, both thicknesses are available depending on the size you choose.
How does Honed compare to Riven or Brushed?
Honed is the flattest and smoothest of the three. Riven is the most textured and traditional, and Brushed sits in between. See our full Slate Hearths range to compare all three.
