The surface of the slate is left in its natural form, a very smooth yet gentle riven texture characterises the beauty of the slate in its natural form. All edges are sawn and sides are unpolished.
What is "riven"?
The slate has been split (opened) along its natural grain or layering. This process exposes the natural texture and colour variations of the slate, giving it an authentic appearance.
Colouration and tone
Varies from light to darker shades of black and grey. These natural markings and veining are characteristic of this premium slate and only highlight the "natural" qualities that set this material apart from others.Â
Sealing Option
👉 Sealing with Stovax Slate oil will darken the colour and create a more uniform appearance whilst maintaining its natural beauty.
👉 Refer to the picture showing approximately 50% of the slab sealed.
👉 Sealing will protect the slate and minimise staining and help with routine cleaning
👉 Sealing will enhance the natural character and aesthetics by making the natural markings more vivid
👉 We are happy to do this for you at a cost of £5 per slab - choose the option from the drop down menu

- Whether it's the smallest 1219 x 381 x 20mm (48 x 15") right up to the 1500 x 900 x 20mm we are sure these will be a size option to cater for most requirements
T Shape - 2pc Set option - Book Matched
- One option to choose from
- The set is designed to create a "T Shape" hearth
- Both sections are cut from a single slab to form a "set"
- The set is "book-matched"
- Book matching means that when the two sections are joined together to form the "T-Shape" the patterns and veining are all aligned and match.Â
