Seconds pieces are cut to your sizes and can't come back, so please measure twice. Pallet orders arrive kerbside — heavy pieces are a two-person lift.

What is a workshop second?
A new slate slab from our own stock with a chip, an edge knock or a surface mark. We never sell cracked slabs as seconds. We cut your hearth from the undamaged part, so the damage ends up in the offcut.
How does it work?
Pick a seconds slab and enter the finished sizes you want in millimetres. The page only accepts sizes that leave room to cut around the damage, then shows how your pieces come off the slab and the full price. We cut, clean and seal in our Milton Keynes workshop, then you collect free or we deliver on a pallet.
How long does it take?
Ready in 14 working days, Standard only (£100). Pallet delivery then takes 2–4 working days, or 1–2 on express, across England and Wales.
Is it the same as a second-hand hearth?
No. It's new stone that has never been fitted. A used hearth rarely fits a new space and can hide heat cracks.
Why is it cheaper?
The slab is 20% off its normal price, and the service is £100: cut, cleaned and sealed, with edges left as sawn. Full Cut to Size is £125 and includes finished edges.
Why can't I always choose a seconds slab?
Your pieces need to leave enough of the slab free for us to cut around the damage. Stock is limited, and when a slab is gone the offer closes.
Can I return a seconds piece?
No. It's cut to your sizes, so please check your measurements. The crack guarantee still applies.
